charging Li Ion

May 19, 2017 5 Replies

I've just been handed a casio camera with a flat lithium ion cell,

3.7V 720mAh, charger has been lost. It has three terminals - T +, I'm guessing T senses temperature. Will I be able to charge it from another charger with 3 similar terminals if I can find one or with a 2 terminal nokia charger, which I have for lithium ion, if I monitor the temperature?

I'd be most tempted to find out who made it and find out if you can get the proper one, assuming the battery isstill any good of course.

No. Charging Li-ion is a specialised business

get the right charger for that cell or sling it

I suspect the original ones are no longer available but a search on casio exilim ex-z80 with NP-60 battery comes up with many aftermarket ones. Cheap enough but only 2 terminals which make me wonder if it is only the camera that uses the temperature sensing.

I'm unsure why my daughter wants to use it again as the cameras on smart phones seem just as good nowadays.

Seems to be about 10 years old.

Excellent value in its day. Only a 3:1 optical zoom. Probably not worth spending much on if a reasonable phone is always available, but personally I would always encourage an interested youngster to learn how to use a *real* camera.

I haven't seen many phones with optical zoom and Xenon flash.
