Central heating controller dies

The Potterton mini minder central heating controller has died, how easy is it to rewire a new controller? The controller, pump and boiler etc are all in the garage and therefore the origins of all wires are obvious. Is this a reasonable DIY job?

Many of these things use the same plug arrangement, so it's simply a question of swopping them - no wiring involved.

Thanks, it looks like the standard "mk 18" fitting. I may order the Randall 715 and give it a go.

All of the modern electronic types I've fitted had comprehensive install guide on how to replace olde models.

It should be. There's a diagram on the back of the controller which should show you what wires are which. Most dual controllers have the same pin outs, but not necessarily the same backplate. It should be fairly trivial to do for anyone half competent. Just don't forget to switch the electricity off.

BTW

There are two miniminders, the miniminder and the miniminder E. If yours is the miniminder (no "E"), then it's a badged Landis & Gyr RWB2, and is pin compatible with the RWB2E, and somebody might suggest this as a replacement ... DON'T, they are crap
