What timber sizes would you advise to use for a carport fixed to side of the house?

It depends on a lot of things. What sizes are you going to work with? Do you have good driving skills? What roofing material will you use to cover it up? Do you have planning and or building consent? Do you know if you'll need building or planning consent? What are your neighbours feelings on you building this type structure? Etc. Etc. Etc.
