carpet grippers

I have a room being carpetted next week and am supplying the underlay and gripper and door bars to avoid the usual expensive fee carpet right charges. Although sadly they are chargin me £13.90 to fit my own underlay and gripper and not theres! But everyone else locally is busy and time restrictions on my part I need it done. (family coming).

Any whoo... I have some gripper in the shed and they have been sitting in a box for about 8/9 months and wondered if these would be ok to use or do you reckon from the cold and weather etc in a shed if they would be useless ? and I should get some new ones and sling these ?

Just examine them. If the wood is not rotting or the spikes falling out, they should be fine!

Yeah, I was worried about them being bent slightly or something.

Good idea :)

Bring 'em in and inspect 'em if the nails have gone rusty I probably wouldn't use them with a light carpet as the rust will stain through over time.

The wood will be damp and need time to dry out ideally not in the box and in the room they will be used in for a week or longer. I guess you don't have that much time but it really depends on how damp they are.

They should be fine - but check that they're the correct type. If the floors are solid, you need the version with masonry nails - but if they're wooden floors, you need the version with softer, barbed, nails.

The soft nails won't go into concrete or screed - they'll just bend. The masonry nails won't grip very well in wood. Hence the need for the right type.

They ought to be fine as long as all the pins have not rusted off!

They won't be once nailed to the floor!

Many carpet fitters simply pull the nails out and glue them with gripfill or similar on masonry.

It doesnt matter if theyre a bit damp or bent, as long as they've not rusted. If theyre the wrong type (masonry v wood), the fitter will just glue them down. No problem.
