Carpet glued to concrete

Feb 24, 2014 9 Replies

Any suggestions on how to get the carpet up.

This is seriously glued to a concrete floor.

I can pull chunks up, but much is left behind.

Any ideas gratefully received.

I once saw professionals scraping it off with what looked like a garden spade.

What was the glue used? Was it solvent based or what?

Brian

Yes, a flat-edged garden spade is what I used. You might want some ear defenders too!

Ear defenders for using a garden spade?

Thanks, I wonder what the solvent is, and what it might do to me??!!!

In this case, yes. It's *loud* and it's more unpleasant than squeaky fingernails on a blackboard. Eye protection might also be a good idea, in case there are loose bits in the concrete.

It'll put hairs on yer chest lad!

I really don't need any more :-)
