Capless

Bought a car with a capless fuel filler....why do they say you shouldn't use petrol cans with a spout ? ....... have to say it is so easy just to flop the cover and thrust in the nozzle at petrol stations ...!

I'd never heard of them, but the video says it's to avoid damaging the spring loaded flaps, and you should find a special funnel somewhere near the spare wheel ...

Oh, is that what it's for. My Ford Focus is capless and there's a funnel- like thing rattling around in the glove compartment.

so why can't you use a spare gallon can??????....seems quite robust the way this guy buggers about with it.......

That *is* the special funnel, you're then supposed to poke your can's spout inside that, presumably a corrugated spout could get caught?

and the system is pressurised when you are driving. Don't damage the flap that is designed to be opened by the pump nozzle

but ...but... most spouts have a long straight bit at the end so I don't see the problem .......

no funnel somebody has nicked it....but at least it has a sparewheel, jack and wheel nut brace .........lots of cars don't

There is no problem you just need a spout on your can that is similar to the filler at the pump

that is what I thought....going to try it anyway ....

where "similar" is pretty close in size else it won't unlock the filler

given also the risks of damaging the capless filler if the spout isn't flexible enough I don't see much benefit over using the funnel (keeping it in a plastic bag or rag to wrap it afterwards)

At lot of alloy wheels have one locking nut - check that the correct locking nut adaptor has been supplied!

One of the first things you should check on a car new to you is to see if you can loosen the wheel nuts with the supplied brace. Some are so short that you cannot get much leverage

I always carry a telescopic wheel brace

Another thing worth checking if you carry a car first aid kit is that it actually has things you may want to use. Mine had enough supplies for a minor operation but was very short of plasters of the correct size when I badly cut a finger.

don't think the yanks bother with locking wheel nuts there are none on this car and the wheel brace is very long...
