What is the significane of the gauge at the bottom of the speedometer headed 400. It only reads with the engine off but the ignitionon on.
Could find no reference in the handbook

Some tank!
500 miles of range, not too dissimilar to my tanks range.
looks to me like accumulated "total" distance and "trip" distance. I've seen other BMWs with them below the dials.
Ahem,
read the question carefully read the question carefully read the question carefully
[I'll do the rest of the 500 later]
when I filled up last Saturday, I was told I had a range of 632 miles!
The scale is marked in km so range is very likely
Seeing as thia is a diseasal probably the AdBlue range left?
Ah, I'm reading the wrong gauge: 94003 km struck me as being rather large for a tank range!
road rage target for today
You and me both! :-)
Could be a time/miles to service indicator.
fuel range?
Range to empty, can cycle through various displays using the button on the end of the turn indicator stalk.
That is, if, as a BMW driver you know what that is
No not that. That is displayed in the small window above this display
I finally fuound it in the handbook
IME, if you don't use a particular feature of a new car within a couple of months, you never will ...
Given that it has "km" next to it, I'd guess that it was estimated range based on your recent fuel consumption and current fuel reserves. Around 500 km is about 310 miles, which seems (sort of) plausible for a bit over half a tank of diesel.
That's surprising. What model is it?
Well I dunno. It was only after I realised that my XK8's nearside mirrors wouldnt go back after being knocked that the Jaguar dealership asked why I hadnt cycled the powerfold mirrors...What power fold mirrors?
I'd had it about three years.
Meanwhile for Bryan...
