Boiler woes

Basically my 8 month old bosch worchester junior 24i had developed a leak as there was water underneath if a few mornings ago. I called an engineer out to have a look and he found something called a flow pipe was a quarter turn loose and was weeping when he fired it up and watched it under pressure. As I was initially on 1 bar and the guage was now in the red.

The manual says it should be set at 1 bar. He left it at 2 bar for some reason I didn't question this at the time as i trusted his knowledge. In 24 hours its dropped half a bar 1.5 bar no visible water leaks on the bioler though so I called him up and he said the air vent dumped the excess pressure out a copper pipe in the wall to self regulate itself. He said keep an eye on it for a few more days and if theres any more pressure lose to call him back.

He did say he might of put too much pressure on it but its not majorly an issue as 2 bar is still in the green.

So far no further pressure lose.

Any advice on this ?

ps in that 24 hours the boiler had not been run since he left. After he left it was left on for 5 minutes then turned off as I was away.

Matthew.Ridges was thinking very hard :

You should not need to be topping it up every week, it should run for months without attention. It doesn't need that much water to be lost, for the pressure to drop.

You can check if the water is being released due to excess pressure, by putting a container under the end of the vent pipe to catch it.

He found a leak and fixed it. As long as the pressure stays in the green you have no problem. If it drops below the safe level there may be another point of loss somewhere but take that under consideration if it occurs. Beng turned off for 24 hours in the present weather may not be the cleverest move. A little heat during that period might save you a lot of expense.

The pressure goes up when the boiler is running and the water gets hot.

The drop you saw *might* be simply due to the system cooling down.

Cold, the pressure might be 0.5 to 1.5 bar (there might be a mark on the gauge showing the correct cold pressure).

The external vent (pressure relief valve?) would normally operate when the pressure gets too high. It shouldn't leak at normal pressure.
