best plaster/mix for heat resistance

Old fire grate is out and log burner fits nicely in the hole - needs tiling and make a hearth at the front and plaster inside and the edges at the front to make good. Would a rough sand mortar and then pink finish take the heat of being sat 100mm from the stove - I can see it separating and cracking? Would one coat plaster be a better option and would it go on 25mm deep without sagging or best done in layers? ta :-)

Did you have to bland it in to the existing pink on the wall face? if so whats the finish like to paint? or is it just render on the inside of the grate?

I used a lime, snowcrete and silversand render that was very light by itself. Then whitewashed it with homemade whitewash made from some of the spare lime. I figured that would stand any amount of heat and so far, it has.

I applied a snowcrete slurry to the brickwork just prior to rendering to ensure a good bond.

The plasterer skimmed the outward facing wall and blended in the edges afterwards.
