I'm alarmed by the recent reports about electrical shortages.
Is it possible to power my gas CH boiler (not a combi) by a 12V 100Ah leisure battery via an inverter?
My understanding is that the central heating pump consumes about 50W and the extraction fan about 10W. If I arrange things so that the inverter's neutral and ground are connected to the corresponding wires on the boiler, a switch from the live on the boiler to the live on the inverter should do the job.
If I run the battery down to half capacity it should provide a bit of security for 5 or 6 hours (and a tankful of hot water) without destroying the battery too quickly.
Rest assured I have no intention of doing this myself but is it worth asking the CH engineer who installed the system a year ago to quote me?
