If they DO rely on the dryness to open then they wouldn't help when draining and refilling because they would remain wet - and that seems to be the main time when automatic venting woul dbe usedful.

no experiance of automatic bleeders at all, but i'd have thunked that for draining and re-filling, you'd do the bleeding manualy, and the auto bleeders are there to get the last little bits of air out that would take days of bleeding manualy,
i know i could do with some on my heating system, being a mix of 15mm and
8mm pipe to the rads it's a bastard to bleed compleately, as soon as i think i have it air free, the next night there's the sound of a bit of air going round the system,took me months to get it air free last time, just had a new boiler, so it's going to be even longer this time,
It says something about them(aladdin ones) needing a replacement bit every couple of years The cartridge requires replacement approximately every 3 - 4 years
I've got something similar, and cheaper if I recall, that I got from B&Q over 10 years ago and which has performed as expected without issues over that period.
Easier to just keep a key on the rad(s) that need bleeding.
If there are radiator(s) that need regular bleeding there is something wrong with the system. Either lack of inhibitor, the "air" is hydrogen released from the water when the iron radiators corrode and pinch the oxygen or there is airated water getting in due to a leak and the system topping itself up or pump over, the splashing will disolve air into the water and of course you are circulating through the open tank as well.
