Aluminium spacers/stand offs

Hi All

I need a very small quantity of these 1/2 inch od 1/4 inch bore lengths between 3/8 inch and 1 inch

I cannot find anywhere in the UK offering them other than in bulk

However I can get just what I want from California for $15 inc p&p

How small a quantity? It wouldn't be hard to buy a bit of tube from somewhere ghastly like B+Q and cut bits off it.

Tubing is usually too thin wall to use as a spacer.

How many exactly in each length? What are they for? Any particular level of precision required i.e. a couple of thou, 1 thou, tenth of a thou?

I've got some aluminium bar so I could whip them off for you on the lathe if I have enough material in stock.

If I remember rightly I used to get them from RS Components, (when they were called Radiospares :-) ), I think they were used as wafer separators for rotary switches. Try and search for spacers in RS Components, you may be lucky. Don

I was looking for some thin spacers to go under a PCB. Couldn't find any on any of the usual sites. Ended up using 3mm nuts which were the right thickess.

1/2" od, 1/4" bore?

When did RS offer Makaswitches that big?

Fair point, I didn't read it properly. Don

That would depend on what tubing you select!

Thanks for the offer but I do not yet know what lengths I will need

Longer answer

The spacers are for a palm rest (hamster pad) for a field target air rifle

The stock is away having an adjustable cheek piece modification done

When it comes back I need to fit the palm rest but the amount of stand off will only be determined once the shooter sits with the gun and the measurement made

A further complication with the particular gun is that the stand offs will need to be different heights due to the profile of the stock

Thisis why I was looking at an assortment of lengths

Tube does not do it for me as the tube I have seen has too thin a wall

This is a problem more in relation to the bolt size (5mm) and lateral movement of the stand offs than the risk of damage to the stock due to the wall cutting in

This is a special I think. I would suggest you get a bit of suitable OD aluminium rod off Ebay, give us your general location and ask if there is someone locally with a lathe who could drill it out for you - similarly seek the same support on one of the model engineering forums.
