AliExpress log in

Not used the site for a while, but I had an account. I wanted to order some electronics (DIY element?), wireless processor module and an Arduino display module for a gadget I am building - so had to log in, on my difficult to control mouse pad laptop..

Enter email and password, move a slider to the right, click button, [Move to next page] type capcha characters in, If you get it right, move to next page. Final page suggests it will email you a code to type in, but it counts down from 60 seconds, or you start over again.

Repeatedly and desperately click Send/Receive in Outlook, whilst waiting for delivery of code, which usually arrived out of the 60 seconds timeout.

Repeat 6 times over, whilst getting more and more frustrated with AliExpress.

What a stupid system! Emails pass through several servers on the way and can easily take a number of minutes to arrive. Indeed, our network only checks for external emails once every three minutes!

Whilst I agree that 60 seconds is a very short window of opportunity - in reality, it has not been a problem for me. The email always arrives sufficiently speedily though I do manually check for email as the automatic check might miss it.

Just this morning got a delivery - and it was only ordered on the first of the month. Tracked all the way.

It's what the banks use, and also Patient Access, and it works straight away for me.

They are really hostile, repeatly throwing up popups, wanting to run Widevine DRM (which I block), throwing CAPTCHAs, randomly locking me out, forcing to re-login frequently, making me login just to search for products. Occasionally it becomes so unusable I plain can't login at all, and then it passes after a few days.

It seems they are really unhappy if you don't accept all their tracking and spying.

If they use a cap char they are breaking the law in many countries now in any case. Are you sure it was the real site, and not just some bod harvesting passwords? Brian

Not good for the blind though, they would need to use a five minute timer for a blind person to listen to the code several times to memorise it then type it back in. Anyone who tries that on me, loses my business. Brian

Ironically logout after very short periods has been plaguing me on the Royal Mail site checking on items sent from AliExpress.

The AliExpress logout hasn't been much of an issue. And the GOT tracking works without logging in.

My banks use their app on my phone, a 2FA validator on my phone or an SMS to verify/validate what I do. None uses an email.

I normally use it from the iOS app and never have to logon.

Ali now add the VAT on at source and collect it, I wonder if they actually then pay uk.gov what they collect? Who would even know if they didn't?

Brian Gaff (Sofa) used his keyboard to write :

Yes, certain - I entered the Ali website URL, managed (eventually) to order my parts and I am now able to track the items.

Just checked mine and i got through without being emailed a code.

Wouldn't HMRC notice - number of packages going through customs clearance (which should mostly be a simple scan) = large number; VAT paid = a small number, approaching zero.

Of course, that would imply a degree of confidence... And who knows how the VAT collected is married up with declared value?

These will be my first imports since Brexit, so I don't know if the declaration will or will not include the amount of VAT charged to the buyer.

ss was thinking very hard :

I am now getting in with just name and password - It must only go through that stupid rigmarole when you haven't visited for a while. I hadn't been on the site for maybe 6 months.

I bought from aliexpress in january, they were producing UK VAT invoices back then, while various EU suppliers were refusing UK orders claiming it was "impossible" ...

I have had far more success importing stuff from China than from the EU, since Brexit.

Chinese want to trade. EU wants to moan.

AliExpress just adds 'tax' at the checkout, so now one has to remember that the price paid will be 20% more than the price you see when searching on AliExpress.
