socket,

No but it's enough for the MF stations to make a considerable difference to the SN ratio day v night and for the local ones to knock out spot carriers during the day:

The plan is to provide every business/household with FTTP. It would make sense to make this a dedicated fibre right back to the "server room" in town. Even if in the first install each output from the "server"(*) is optically split/combined 16 or 32 ways. The really expensive bit is digging holes/trenches so one may as well put in dedicated fibres to allow upgrades in the future. A 32 way split will start to push or even exceed the fibre length limits for the more remote locations.

(*) The names and acronyms for this kit and technology have all gone AWOL from my mind ATM.

Yes I've not had any practical experience of overhead supplied ADSL as all the locations we do have ADSL at are underground fed even ones right out in the sticks!..

Well here the VM system, formerly Cambridge Cable, is all underground ducted and for the greater part its Fibre to the roadside cabinet then co-ax for the last link, But it does work very well.

Course BT could do this where they have duct to the home too..
