2d fluorescent tube , 2 or 4 pin.

I have change a 2D tube, and to save a long round trip I need to identify whether the tube is 2 pin or 4 pin from a photograph. the only marking is 1600 W. Any other clues to show the difference?

Well 1600 W seems a bit unlikely if it means watts.

Can you show us the photograph, it might help you know! :-)

If the photo shows the fitting, the presence of a plug-in starter would indicate it must be 4 pin.

Even if you know how many pins it has, how will you know that it will fit the fitting? I imagine there are lots of different sizes and fittings.

All the same fitting, I think. Take the old tube out (you are going to have to anyway), if it has two pins you need a 2 pin replacement, otherwise 4 pin.

From the photograph I have identified the fitting manufacturer and model no. A phonecall to them gave me the answer, 4 pin lamp.

Get ready you the actual lampholder to drop to bits due to heat when you remove the old lamp.

From experience the further from home you are the more likely this is to occur.

I've just replaced an old-ish 4 pin (36W?) with a 40W 600 x 600 LED panel that gives much more light.

If 1600 watts it must be freakin enormous

He was trying to avoid the round trip twice, which was why he wanted to know.

If the actual fitting is known, then maybe there is info on the tube it takes. Of course it might also be that a complete replacement fitting with an LED unit is cheaper in the long run. Brian

You can even buy LCD cards to put into a 2D fitting

That worked OK for my worklight, IIRC I had to do some internal rewiring.

Or one of those bathroom-ceiling combined light/heaters ?
