I let everyone in the house know my shop is off-limits to everyone.
The Deutsches Museum in Munich has, amongst many other wonderful things, a woodworking shop with tools operated via belts from an overhead shaft. It is well worth seeing.

Maybe not more expensive; remember, this is a multi-employee shop, and it takes days to build/rebuild a ladder. I'd think, though, that 'heavy' is probably correct.
I would not be banging out, the body shop can deal with it.
