A Parable About Timing, Memory Aids And Woodworking (semi-long)

High shop class. I started collecting a few tools in college and built my first shop right after I bought my first house. Although I love woodworking, it takes a back seat to all those things you mentioned about raising kids and keeping them fed and clothed, educated and entertained.

The Woodcraft guys in Allentown are always amazed I drive an hour to visit and shop there. I've been to Garrett Wade in NYC on the Avenue of the Americas, its ok, but limited; you're better off with the catalog unless you're in the area, small showroom.

Down and dirty drawers

Lew mistakes the _real_ reason to go into the bank isn't to do the routine business w/ a teller but to visit with the prez, catch up on the local "more businessy" news in town in factual context don't get at the coffee shop from the street, and otherwise connect w/ another ...

alarm batteries

At the junction of the road where I live there is a mini Sainsburys corner shop with. At least once a day someone will park up for that 5 minute visit and the car alarm will go off. I sometimes suspect that its always the same car every day.

TopSaver System - Rust Removal Excellent!

Just began pulling my tools out of storage after a year of construction on our house for multiple additions (and new shop). Began sanding the rust and corrosion off (contractors like to set coffee cups on cast iron, etc.) but took a break to visit Woodcraft.

Anyone else have a poor man's shop?

A poor man's shop is quite different than a frugal mans shop which is what I have. I get all my equipment used from estate sales and auctions. I'm lucky to live in an are where there are alot of both. Got a Unisaw for 275.00 (Just had to add a fence and scrub a little).
