Not sure whether it'll help you or not, but since moving out to the sticks a few years ago, we've had the salesman visiting us at home, rather than a visit to a carpet warehouse.

Hello Horatio, You can take a plain-paper bag, and visit all your corn plants that have tassles with lots of pollen. Bend the top of the plant over into the bag and shake pollen into the bag. Repeat.

If the system is used simply to alert health visitors, social workers etc to visit people (or to visit them sooner than they would otherwise) then "false positives" have a financial cost but do not harm anyone.

What's to be done with an old frying-pan?

I don't believe any non-stick pans are cast iron. The non-stick coating is adhered by a process which pretty much implies aluminium.
