A quieter wood thickness planer?

Other than that, maybe make the home shop a neander shop, and rent a small industrial condo, or a corner of a pro shop for the big iron. I know of an owner of a woodworking school who has a home shop in a condo bedroom. His only power tool at home is a band saw.

Burglar alarms and home security

The alarm at the shop caught the guy who had been breaking into auto repair shops in the area the FIRST NIGHT it was in operation - and before he even got the door open.

Dust Collector Location question / advice

I went through a lot of research when I moved and was designing the new shop.. In my case, putting the unit outside would have caused the same problems that others have, plus future building in my area will eventually include neighboring houses.. I didn't want noise abuse to folks nearby..

Yet another electrical question on a WW tool

I have my lights (fluorescent) coming off the main house panel and all else coming off a sub panel for the shop. That way I can lock out all machines and outlets when I have grand kids working in the shop.

left hinge door, right hinge storm

The door to my shop in the basement is "opposite-hinged" but there is a reason. The shop is an extension off of the back of the house, but is only half as wide as original house. The door is marked by the X.

60A subpanel question

Am wiring my new unattached shop. Running off a 60A breaker from my main service panel. Supplier has a UF #6 - 3 conductor w/ground which would be the easiest to install. However, I will have a 60ft run with about 45ft above ground and 15ft underground.

At one shop, I was told that it is better to have mains halogen spo lights with a dimmer as they last longer than the low voltag transformer type.

spray foam insulation for shop pole building

My shop is part of my house which is all insulated with Icynene. Yep, it was more expensive than the pink stuff. However, my 15' x 25' shop is not heated or cooled.
