Odd - in a recent visit from our fire brigade (Cheshire), electrical fires came fifth and these were mostly due to portable heaters being left on unattended in silly places.

But, due to the way the duty (and cost) was put on suppliers you have to leave each supplier to arrange a separate visit to instal each meter.

vinyl tape

My suggestion is to visit a convertible top shop and have them make the repairs. Tape in this situation seldom holds up. That is why you don't see it.

+1 for Ikea alkalines, seem to last easily as long as other brands and cheap enough to buy a couple of spare packs to last until the next visit ;)
