Poor design

I assume that in the UK the model for a filling station is to normally have a shop attached to maximise the money taken. The shop is staffed.

South Essex Fasteners Ebay shop. When I was working this was the "go to" company to try and find harder to find screws etc.

furniture coil springs

local upholestry shop/ springs vary in ahh springness, combo of wire gauge, number of turns etc. this effects how hard the springs are hard to do by mail order.......... easy to do standing in a shop with a old intact spring and potential purchase........ good luck

Buying strip brass

This is what you should find in a decent traditional model shop. For springy you may need a phosphor bronze. http://www.technobotsonline.com/strip-and-sheet.html is probably a good bet if no model shop nearby.

What size A/C unit for shop?

Ask whoever is sizing the AC to consider that you will be running tools such as a dust collector and airfilter plus significant lighting while trying to cool the shop. The motor and lighting load is significant. All of it will become heat within your shop.

Cabinets in basement...melamine, mdf, plywood?

and I'm making my own shop cabinets, raised panel fronts and all. SWMBO says the shop cabinets are nicer than the kitchen units and when am I going to swap with her?

Dust Collector outside?

Mine has always been in the shed behind the shop. I can't tell that the temperature drops or rises when it is in operation. The heater does not come on more. The sound is much less in the shop but louder outside for the neighbors. danh wrote:

Random Orbital Sander with PSA Paper

We've got H&L in our shop. When we have them. Our purchasing agent seems to rarely want to buy them. Of course he's also the owner, shop foreman, designer and payroll manager, so I guess he can do whatever the *&$%$# he wants. JP ************************* Still sans fingerprints.
