If all else fails try a decent stationer or office supply shop: I use exactly that sort of fitting (in chromed steel and pretty substantial ) for binding manuscripts, and the smallest size is, I believe, around 3mm.

Maybe you've already seen it, but if you haven't, the free plans over at Vintage Projects are a hoot. Old plans from the 40s, 50s, of musical instruments, archery, kids woodworking, all kinds of fun stuff.
If nothing else, visit a crafts or hobby shop and ask for something specificially for removing paint from plastic. Modelers have used brake fluid, but it softens some plastics. Puckdropper
Should I go bigbox, buy brand name, or shop Internet, and buy price? I have three in my current system in the main part of the house. Not sure what we are going to put into the casita, as that uses less water, and does not need a large system.
