tl;dr - don't give your CVV to anyone that calls *you*.
Bit slow, this was reported in 2006 http://www.hoax-slayer.com/card-security-code-scam.htmlHow would they already have your name, address, phone number, card numbers, but not the CVV code?
I think that'll be because amazon bear the risk themselves. i.e. they don't use CVV numbers to 'validate' cardholder not-present transactions like most retailers do.

In fact how does he read his CVV number even now ?. He'll be along to tell us shortly ...
But the CVV proves that the card is in your possession. If you were to memorise it or -shock, horror- write it down, the whole security framework would crumble. Fortunately, criminals are far too honourable to even consider doing such a thing. Nick
I thought they (and other traders) could process an order without a CVV but they had as a result to accept higher charges/higher risk of chargebacks from fraud. I can well believe Amazon do so given their aim is less immediate profit and more world domination.
only if the company supplying the goods don't need the pin or the CVV number - neither of which is encoded in the chip tim
What I could do is provide a service for you where you ping me an email containing your 16 digit number, sort code, account number, CVV number and PIN number and I'll send you a code by return.
suppliers *must* NOT store your CVV number in their database they must validate the CVV number, at point of sale (and now they have to go through the CC two factor authentication) if they don't, the loss falls to them, so what do I care?
