Ok, the die is cast. I'm going, though I can only get awat for a day or two.

I've got to attend Bob Dressler's trichopilia talk (it's a cruel irony of fate that the next most-interesting talk to me, Bulbo culture by Bill Thoms, is at the same time and my clone is in the shop) on Friday and I want to take in the Tamiami event if I can squeeze it in between my

40-year-friend Richard's pool and margaritas and the WOC.

Who else is going and when can I run ino you (literally; if history is any guide I'll be running at breakneck speed between vendors and having eyes only for plants) ?

We'll be there Friday. Where to run into us - huh, I don't know. Watch this thread. If I can figure out a good location I'll post it. A meet-up would be fun.

will be blundering down there at some point, but have no schedule as of yet... i'll be the one wandering around going "ooh! pretty!" every five seconds until someone smacks me. :)

I just got my 'Orchids' and its full of ads for vendors at the WOC....argh!! I'm so ticked I can't go! Motes says he's only going to be at Tamiami.

Its just looks like a good time.

Martin is the organizer of Tamiami. There was conflict between WOC/Tamiami dates because the original WOC dates were for a venue that turned out to be a no go. Martin already had his space booked way in advance. That's basically why they overlap. I'm sure that WOC is going to be fabulous, but I hate it that I'm going to miss Tamiami.

[not looking - sticking fingers in ears - lalalala] No! I can't read the vendors list else I'll open a vein for want of attending. If anyone who thinks growing orchids *isn't* an addiction hasn't answered the Call of the Vendors. Was it Circe who led Jason onto the rocks with the beauty of her song? Thats nothing by comparison. Nope, shant look. Can't make me... well, maybe a peek wouldn't to any harm... just for a second.

Oooooooo - Michael Ooi's going to be there... supposedly he was developing some legally grown/legally importable 'USA illegal' paphs like Paph coccinea et al....

Alas, it just ain't in the cards. You don't know how many times I've tried to make it out to Homestead only to havesomething interfere. The WOC and attendant shows seems like a great fun time for anyone who can attend. Seems like a much bigger production than any of the previous ones were.

it's actually a *really* inconvenient time for me to go--but this is only, what, the third time it's been held in the US in 50 yrs? and not in CA or HI? Fl i can get to, so i'm thinking "i should really try and go to this..."

Then make the most of it! What an opportunity to see vendor's wares that rarely if ever come to the US. Many of the Taiwanian vendors I've never heard of. They may sell nothing but mericlones - who knows? but its worth a look. And we don't see many Malaysian vendors (I think there are 2 on the list). Then there's Tamiami and whatever else is out there. From what I understand the Keys aren't that far away either. Go meet Jay Pfahl, buy him a beer.

One of my friends always says the only reason she got into the judging program was to be able to make an excuse to go see shows in exotic lands. She goes to the Cali Columbia shows whenever she can. She says their cattleyas put even the best grown catts here to shame. They are HUGE there! So to be able to see the exhibits and check on examples of 'the best' flowers, wow, what an opportunity. Take pictures! Bring extra memory cards. I'm sure you'll end up in orchid overload. Or I hope you do.
