Windows 10 updates on 'unsupported' hardware

Ah yes, warning you that the following pic would be included with future releases if you didn't, basically, leave me and HHI alone..

Let's put it in proper perspective then:

Definition of homie homie noun

a friend.

He is my precious homie.

Me and my homie taking a trip this summer.

That took all of two seconds. Clearly, you missed the sarcasm implied...

I think we should let others see the pic in question. To put the post you lifted from two other newsgroups (It was crossposted to them) in proper perspective...

Hmm. I wonder how many urls of that pic I have... *grin*

Doesn't much matter, it's really out there now. You didn't mention whether or not you appreciated the work that went into it's creation. So.. what do you think of it?

I think you've been wasting a great deal of your time, Dustin!

Folk are entitled to know what YOU look like too, don't you think?

Here's that piccie you proudly presented to us some years ago - it's no longer in my Dropbox folder! (September 2012)

Who took the photograph by the way - it's certainly not a 'selfie'?

I already told you I have a workshop in my house. My "real" job was repairing industrial equipment...mostly industrial battery chargers etc. Most microprocessor controlled and difficult to program . Each design a has a different procedure.

Like I said, been doing that 38 years and was in on the ground floor of automatic control design. Working on a PC is child's play compared to these things.

Originally the controls were discrete CMOS logic but later moved to microprocessor. One of the first of them used a Z-80 and those control boards stayed in production for over 20 years. Hey they worked, but it was funny to have to wait 20 seconds for one to turn off, once one hit the "off" button.

BFD Most new laptops are child's play to work on. Of course there are bound to be exceptions. It's poor design if RAM and a HD cannot be replaced easily. PERIOD

I am wrong ten times a day BFD

's a 15 minute job.

That part I agree on. I only did IT work as a volunteer and I was not certified or anything. I am sure you have way more experience in IT.

BTW: I did often have to correct mistakes the firm the NPO paid to do IT work,. they were very lax and the origination took my advice to hire another firm.

When I said I have repaired or built thousands of machines, I did not anywhere say I did extensive IT work.

That said, you have mention BSOD's a lot and I just plain do not get them on the equipment I work on.

Not saying I have never see one of XP or Win7 but it's so rare it's less than once every few years.

As to transplanting a HD into different hardware...I've found that perhaps 90% of the time Win7 will reconfigure with no problem. Some drivers might have to be added later.

XP is not so good, Unless the system is properly prepped, a transplant only works some of the time.

I have seen it work with different chipsets and have seen it fail on similar chipsets.

Win10 has a several different repair options and I have always managed to get the HD working on new H/W

The one exception was putting a drive that had been installed on a UEFI machine into one with a standard BIOS.

Going the other way worked fine though

Well, what else would you have called it? It was a side gig for you right? Your 'real' job was doing something else, entirely. I meant no disrespect with my comment, btw. I have no personal issues of any kind with you, so I'm not trying to be disrespectful towards you. Apologies if I seem to be coming across that way, though.

Nice.

A smart individual knows when to refer things to someone who specializes in the software that has an issue. :) There's so much frakking software 'out there' it's impossible to be a master of it all. Who has that many lifetimes, right?

I have no doubt in your abilities as a hardware person, truth be told. Many techs I know irl are hardware junkies themselves. They won't touch the coding aspects with a barge pole, though. :(

No worries. And, I think you might not be giving yourself enough credit. I could be wrong, and, it's just my opinion, but, I believe almost anyone could turn into a great coder if they wanted to spend the time and effort learning. If you lack patience, it *will* teach you patience. [g] And the rewards for it are impossible for me to put into words that would make sense. I'd also advise those who do learn to become great coders, not abuse their knowledge as I did at one point in my life. You will regret it, that I know from personal first hand experience.
