What happened to the gas station air suppplies that a I liked.

Lots of things. Most gas stations are no longer repair stations, so they do not have the $3000 compressor installed for other purposes to supply the air - so they need to provide a separate compressor - just for the tire air.

The cost of electricity has also gone up, while the margin on the gas they sell has gone down,and the wagesthey pay have gone up.

A better question would be what has NOT changed since the second world war. - and in the last 15 years??

Nor can the spoiled white boy or for that matter half the politicians in the country, regardless of political affiliation.

A WHOLE LOT less credit card fraud here in Canada since they went to contactless transactions (usually up to $100 - some places higher) The chip and pin was an even greater improvement over the mag swipe.

The contactless technology only works in a range of several inches at best - so pretty darn hard to "skim" Chip and pin was succeptible to "false fronts" with cameras to see your pin and "repeaters" to send the chip information to the crooks.

I was on the Garden State recently, pulled into one of their famous service stations. No one around at the pump so I got out did the credit card, turned on the pump.

When the attendant showed up, he just shrugged and walked off.

So, proof positive, you can serve yourself in NJ and not get arrested.

We're talking about something that a LOT of us grew up with - free air at most garages and some fuel-only stations, during their operating hours.

I remember some stations that had full service, and self service (at different pumps) for a lower price. It's been several decades since then.

"I" didn't bring up color. Some other a-hole said "the 3d world cashier at the mini mart can barely run the cash register. " and I just corrected him sayin pretty much what you said - color has nothing to do with it. Don't get your knickers in a knot.

I don't need someone else chipping the paint around the gas filler on my vehicles.

You must live in a different CT than the one I'm familiar with -- Waterbury, New Britain, New London, New Haven, Hartford, ... Yeah, I know there are some nice places in those cities as well as the places I'd prefer to be heavily armed.

They do in most of eastern Oregon. Low population counties are exempt.

I didn’t, I have always used the latest technology as soon as it was available and still do now, using apple pay almost all the time now.

I still use cash at garage/yard sales even tho I can pay any cellphone number in the country, but its not worth the hassle of convincing people that that is a valid payment or worth their hassle of getting the cash which isnt quite a convenient for them as with real cash.

I havent yet got into the situation where they don’t have enough change and so may be prepared to accept payment to their cell phone number instead of not being able to sell something to me, and it isnt all that likely to happen because I am very often the first person to show up at a particular garage/yard sale and most would decide that they are likely to be able to sell it to someone else later if they can't give me the change. Or they can just mark it as sold and get me to come back later when they will have more change, having sold stuff after I have shown up.

At one time a few of the local fruit and veg sellers used to refuse an electronic or card transaction for transactions of less than $5, but they have all changed their mind on that and are happy to accept a card to *Pay transaction for anything now.

At least for my biased sampling, card readers on gas pumps don't have a chip reader. Nor do they have any real authentication mechanism, except for typing in your postal (ZIP) code. Some of them have RFID readers for the gas station's own brand of credit card, but not for generic VISA or MasterCard.

The rumor is that they thought Americans were too dumb to learn another PIN.

At my company, if someone has dropped their software maintenance and contacts us with a simple question, we're quite likely to answer it.

In some cases, color has a lot to do with it. For example, used to be that you could take a cab ride in NYC and either enjoy quiet or if it suited you, have a conversation with the taxi driver. Now you usually have a Pakistani or similar driver, who's got one of those earpiece mics stuck in his ear, yapping continuously in some dialect to someone for the duration of the ride. I haven't seen a white Pakistani.

Please, pleas, don't give them any ideas.
