In a 30 year old house the wood floors are not quite level, i.e. they have settled. Is this normal?

they could have been installed with the floor joists and no across, i have seen this to many times and have to wonder what the installer was thinking
Its normal as long as the rest of the house is settling. The point about installing the wood across the joists is a good one. You don't explain your settling to really say.
