Using Caulk to patch drywall cracks?

Is there any problem in using paintable silicon caulk to patch small drywall cracks?

Thanks

It's a bit hard to get it perfectly smooth, you have to be sure it's completely smooth before it cures. With patching compound you can sand it afterwords. Otherwise, I've used it to seal the gap nbetween baseboard and the wall and it works well.

My personal recommendation is to make sure it's the latex water-based for easy cleanup.

My old kitchen had cabinets and wallboard put in about fifty years ago, and wall paper was hiding the gaps meeting the ceiling. I used painters caulk and it looks OK. Not much work either.
