Upgrading Gas Meter

That's in the subject line. A new gas meter. And likely associated gasline plumbing to the hot tub.

Assuming the hot tub is covered when not in use, the amount of energy required to keep it at temperature is fairly small.

I'd just go with electric and get solar panels. In fact, that's what I have, and even with the swim spa at 100F, solar panels cover all household annual electric requirements.

First off, the subject line doesn't belong to DKL. This thread was started 15 years ago. Based on what we all know about these HOH thread revivals, I don't automatically assume that the subject line (fully) applies to the current post.

Your use of "likely" supports what I said: "Tell us what you will be getting for your money."

You don't know, we don't know. I doubt that a new meter costs ~$5K, so, yes, there is "likely" some gas line that will be run. However, we don't know how much, where, why, etc.

Based on the wealth of information DKL provided, how would you answer his question? "What can I do?" What do you suggest that he do?

Have you priced what a utility charges for such services? While $5k seems high, consider that they may need to upgrade the street line to supply that amount of gas without reducing pressure for the rest of the neighborhood.

That *exactly* my point. We don't know what the $5K covers. I don't understand why it sounds like you are arguing with me when what you are actually doing is repeating exactly what I've been saying all along: We don't know what the $5K covers. The only real difference is that you are speculating as to what is "likely" included while I'm taking the more efficient route and asking the only person who actually knows: DKL.

There's nothing wrong with trying to gather a little more information in order to understand what the professionals are telling you. It's actually very smart to do that, since we aren't going to try and sell him anything. However, he's not going to get any help unless he provides enough information. "My car is making noise. What's wrong with it?" Those types of posts aren't going get him very far.

This sounds like a lot of trouble. I think he should just stay dirty.
