TV set failure

Hi,

I had a weird TV set failure. This is the setup:

hdmi cable internet-fibre---router---[TV decoder]-------------1-[TV set] \ hdmi cable /2 \--[chromecast]------------/

Well, Sunday at 1 AM, the TV displayed only a red colour. It worked fine during the afternoon. If I disconnected and reconnected the tv decoder, the menu would show for a second, then all red. Change cable, change hdmi input 1 to 2, 2 to 1... same thing.

The chromecast device connected to another hdmi input, displayed a black screen.

And a laptop displayed fine, I could see movies using it.

And using the internal tuner of the TV set I could watch the programming.

Comes the technician, and after doing the same tests I did, suggest to try another TV set. Bingo! It worked.

I said, how come the laptop works? Different signal, he says.

He blames the Gran Apagón, the big blackout we had two months ago in Spain. Says many electronics are failing.

Then I recalled that two UV mosquito killer gadgets also died the past week, while I was away.

So, replace the TV set.

Do you know what kind of failure can cause the fibre TV decoder to transmit just a red screen, and the chromecast transmit a black screen? While the laptop connected via hdmi cable keeps working fine?

I claimed the insurance for replacement, but when the guy came today to check, the TV decided to work fine. I suspect some type of computer lock situation that a reset would have solved. Ie, disconnect the power for a while.

Now I have two TV sets, one old, the new is "smart".
