Tile foyer

Jun 29, 2003 1 Replies

Hello All,

I am going to lay a new tile foyer. I have removed the existing wood floor (damaged from weather) down to the plywood underlayment. I am not sure about size of underlayment.

I also took off the asphalt moisture barrier as well.

I intend laying 1/4 hardiboard over the plywood. I would like to lay thicker but only have 3/4 to work with.

My question to you all is should I put down another moisture barrier? There is a crawl space underneath that already has a barrier on it.

Thank you very much

I'm not sure what the group thinks about "Rhinoboard" from Custom Building Products. Its less than 1/4 inch, very solid with great moisture resistance. I think you can lay it on 3/4 inch subfloor - but I can't quite remember. I used it recently in a bathroom installation. I really enjoyed working with it and I am very pleased so far with the results...but of course its early.
