Thomasville Kitchen Cabinets

We're considering buying three Thomasville Kitchen Cabinets at HD to be put together for an island. Two 15" inch and one 36" to hold a 30" gas cooktop. They are the Ashton in toasted almond. I'd appreciate some feedback as the the quality of these cabinets. I know everyone has a negative about HD and so do I. But the cabinets look decent. Anyway, I'd like to hear some views before we make a wrong decision. Thanks in advance!!!!!!

Depends on your point of view. All prefabs suck compared to actual cabinetry, but all or almost all can be made to work. Key is to get the stuff lined up properly (not easy, they're somewhat out of square) and assemble/attach them well. Do that and you'll be ok.

Recently had a complete bathroom reno done. Bought all pcs including tub, toilet etc., from HD ,it's tough enough when picking fixtures with SWMBO,I didn't want to be running all over southern Ontario looking at every item ever made. Vanity cabinets, mirrors and over the toilet cabinet were made by a company called Mills Pride (exclusive to HD) and they are complete garbage. Installed 2 24" vanities and a center 12" drawer section. Of the the 4 doors on the vanities, 3 had to be replaced due to workmanship . Orange peel on the finish of one door, a thumb print in the finish of another, the third had black marks all over it similar to magic marker. All doors were either chipped at the tenon joint or had wood filler to repair damage. 1 of the two doors on the toilet cabinet had to be replaced and the top of the cabinet was also replaced due to screw holes out of alignment. The tops and bottoms of both mirrors ( bread board style ends) had to be replaced as well due to hole misalignment. If the original tops were used there would have been a gap of 3/8 on an inch on one side where the mirror meets the wall at the top. When I finally had enough and called the production manager, I was told that all these hole misalignments were within their production tolerances. I guess almost ok is good enough.

I thought they looked decent as well in the store, but I have to wonder how many cabinet sets they had to open to get a complete vanity that looks decent. As well I don't believe that one can scrutinize them that well in the store with distractions and poor lighting.

When I need cabinets again I WILL get them made locally by a specialist that takes real pride and care in the final product. That's my 2 cents and a whiff of a rant

Best 'o luck

You get what you pay for. Like you, I hear poor things about HD, particularly where they are doing the install.

Thomasville and Mills Pride are considered low end.

If you have good skills and do it yourself, you can probably make the cabinets work. They come knocked down, they're not always drilled out properly or perfectly square, but they can be made to work.

I'm a contractor and our experience is that we can make higher quality boxes (full backs, maple or black melamine interiors, better drawer glides) and buy better finished doors for about the same price the box stores charge.

The install is cheaper because there is no assembly.

I'm happy with the Schrock's I just had installed.
