suggestions on security glazing

any ideas on sources of windows (double glazed, hopefully) that are difficult to break into? Hopefully without making the building look too much like a jail. Thanks Bill

You are probly looking for polycarbonate--trade name is Lexan....

Any number of sources, suggest contact your closest plastics supply house.

It is what bulletproof panels are made from.

Any competent glass company should be able to order insulated glass units with laminated safety glass as the outer pane. Laminated safety glass is what car windshields are made of; two layers of glass with a thin plastic membrane between. Throw a brick at it or hit it with a baseball bat and it will crack badly, but it will not break and it will not fall out. You can eventually chop a hole in it with a hammer or hatchet, but most crooks are much too lazy.

It won't be cheap, but it will be effective and look no different than ordinary glass.

John, That sounds interesting. I guess the insulated safety glass panels could be made for the commercial style aluminum glazing systems. I'll see if one of the local outfits can do that for some openable sections, as well. Thanks Bill
