Sale of lead screw anchors in California.

I=92m having a lot of trouble finding lead screw anchors here in California; especially the 5/16=94ones for # 10-14 screws. The store clerks are telling me that lead anchors are banned in California but I haven=92t read anything about it, and yes I did read NSF61 and AB1953 which only cover plumbing and not anchors. Did I miss something or anyone have any idea what is going on?

It is a Prop 65 thing.

They probably decided that it is safer to just not sell such items, rather than risk being sued by people like this :

I guess they=92re afraid that people are going to remove the screws and lick the anchors. All that=92s left now is for parents to start suing their elementary schools for having the teachers make their children use lead pencils.

There is no lead in pencils. It is graphite. You must have been homeschooled by religious kooks if you don't know that.

But it wasn't unusual for older ones to be painted with lead paint and probably guaranteed with ChiCom versions..

Muslims?

Where did THAT come from?

Meanwhile, "religious" and "kook" go together like soup and sandwich.

And "Red" is your real name, kook?

The problem that I have noted is the metallic screw and lag bolt anchors have not been lead (or at least not contained much lead) for several decades. I have some old ones bought in the early 70s that were soft and would conform to the material they were used to anchor to, but now the metallic anchors all seem to be made from zinc and do not conform to the inside of the hole, can slip out because they are hard and brittle enough to break if stressed too much.

That article is from 2001. How about an update? Straight question.

And YOU couldn't miss a chance to be a moron and turn this into a hate religion tirade!

Well yes, doesn't everybody pull the anchors out and chew on them? Has California just totally gone bonkers or what?

You must be very new here. The bashing of various broad groups had already begun in this thread before I posted.

Besides, I don't hate religion. I just think people (such as you, obviously) who believe in god nonsense, are mentally ill.

Prop 65 would not ban them, just require a prop 65 warning. They would need some additional legislation.

The word "God" should be capitalized in recognition of His importance and station.

I use lower case in recognition of the real world.

Rather I believe in God or not wasn't the point, rather I go around bashing those who do or don't was the issue. You apparantly don't believe in much of anything beyond your own super elevated opinion of yourself which is fine but doesn't excuse your actions toward others who don't hold that same high opinion.

I believe I was simply and accurately following YOUR lead, dumbass.

Go cry to your invisible friend about it.

I don't know if he thinks Muslims are religious kooks or not but they proved to me they were on September 11th.

And who are you calling "chickenshit" red?

-snip-

Did Christians prove that on Nov 18, 1978, or was that just another perversion of religion by a minority of nutcases?

The radical factions of Islam are a slim minority-- and I'll grant you they are kooks- but your brush is too broad. Every religion has their kooks.
