Roofing How-to?

Are there any how-to websites on applying asphalt shingles?

Look at a bundle of shingles, instructions are on most. Remeber, putting shingles on is very easy, the important parts are waterproofing around openings\vents, tin shingles next to the house, valley tin, better ways to start (30# sticker felt). Good luck.

No. There are , however, web sites for all the major manufacturers (Certainteed for example) from which you can find the toll free phone numbers and publication numbers for literature describing proper application of all their products. Make sure you pay attention to common sense things like safety (scaffolding will save you tons of time) and the proper tools (air nailers, compressors, roof jacks). Keep in mind that a bundle of shingles weighs a bunch, especially the good ones and try to get a delivery with a hoist to set the suckers on the roof. It isn't rocket science, but it is hard work and can be dangerous if you tend to be sloppy or in a hurry. Many cities have a dollar limit on DIY projects, so you may have to pull a permit. A well done job can be quite a saving, so good luck.
