Request for opinions/advice on a new Air Conditioning system.

My compressor quit Thursday morning. I plan to have the following Goodman system installed Monday: CPLT36 Outdoor compressor/heat pump unit AEPT36 or AEPT60 Air Handler Digital Thermostat

Questions

  1. What do you think of this system?
  2. Will the SEER rating be 14?
  3. Is 71 a competitive price? Includes 10 warranty for parts and labor.

Thanks in advance for any advice or opinions, Bill

You don`t know what seer you bought ! I have not heard that Goodman is top line. Did they do a load calculation ? Did you get bids on different units from different people.

Price is a local option so what is a good price in one city may be high or low in another.

High or low neither is a good price if it comes with a second rate contractor. More people have poor results due to installation issues than equipment issues. Make sure you research your contractor very well before you commit. Also get at least one more estimate before going ahead. Compare the two. If one wants to use a different size unit or sects out some difference in the installation, find out why.

The contractor said the SEER would be 14. The compressor/heat pump is 13 and he said the air handler would up it to 14. I've read all the information about them on the Goodman website. It confirms the 13 but doesn't say anything about the 1 SEER being added by the air handler.

First off, Goodman is not the best liked equipment in the industry. It's cheaply made with substandard (at times) parts. In other words, I don't think much of a system like that.

2) I can't answer that question, except to say that there needs to be a time delay on the fan circuit to give the additional SEER rating. 3) I could put you in a Rheem heat pump, 14 SEER, for about that kind of money.
