Refinishing Bathtub Question

My bathtub is 20+ yrs. old. It was the metal with acrylic finish type and is beginning to show some serious signs of wear. My neighbor got new 3 piece set made from moded plastic, it covers the tile and the tub - only problem, it also covered her window and she had to remove existing tile before they could do that.

I just want to improve tub. Can you get a similar molded thing and just do the tub? If that isn't possible, what about refinishing tub? Is it similar to paint? Does it last long enough to justify the expense.

Thanks for any help.

Try Luxury Bath Systems. They will cover your existing bathtub with an acrylic liner custom made to match the form of your tub. I've used their Loves Park, Il. dealer to do a complete remodel of my bath room and a cousin subsequently had them do the bathtub insert and wall panel to cover old tile. They were pleased with the job. Link is below.

I called Luxury Baths and their nearest dealer is too far away. Does anyone else know of a similar product? I asked the girl who answered the phone if she knew whether it was possible to do just the tub and she said yes it was. Hope she was right.
