I am having trouble with a 2-year-old Indesit fridge-freezer, and wonder if
anyone may be able to help.
The fridge started to feel as if it was no longer cold (the temperature
control knob is definitely set correctly); the freezer is operating fine. A
closer look revealed that the "red alarm lamp" was illuminated, which,
according to the manual means that the freezer is not operating correctly
and the temperature is rising too much. Furthermore, the motor is now
running continuously. The troubleshooting section of the manual says to
check the obvious (that doors are closed, thermostat is correctly set,
fridge/freezer is not over-filled, etc) but none applies.
The strange thing is, the freezer is operating correctly, yet it is when I
turn the freezer off that the "red alarm lamp" goes out. This is not the
case when I turn just the fridge off, yet it is the fridge that is not
working. I have tried switching the unit off from the mains for a while
also, but this had no effect.
Does anyone have any ideas what it could be or what I could try before I
call an engineer?
Many thanks in advance.
