Problem with Indesit Fridge-Freezer

I am having trouble with a 2-year-old Indesit fridge-freezer, and wonder if anyone may be able to help.

The fridge started to feel as if it was no longer cold (the temperature control knob is definitely set correctly); the freezer is operating fine. A closer look revealed that the "red alarm lamp" was illuminated, which, according to the manual means that the freezer is not operating correctly and the temperature is rising too much. Furthermore, the motor is now running continuously. The troubleshooting section of the manual says to check the obvious (that doors are closed, thermostat is correctly set, fridge/freezer is not over-filled, etc) but none applies.

The strange thing is, the freezer is operating correctly, yet it is when I turn the freezer off that the "red alarm lamp" goes out. This is not the case when I turn just the fridge off, yet it is the fridge that is not working. I have tried switching the unit off from the mains for a while also, but this had no effect.

Does anyone have any ideas what it could be or what I could try before I call an engineer?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

Frost free style with a fan motor? Model#?

Frost free failure may stop the air flow into the fresh food section but leave the freezer still working.

Just 2 years old, any warranty still left?

Maytbe try an overnight derfosting with the power plug pulled and the doors left open....in the am plug back in and wait 4-6 hours and see how the temps are....if better you may have removed the frost buuld up which would indicate where the trouble may have started.

Thanks for your reply. I should've been a bit more specific.

It is indeed a frost-free style fridge-freezer. I'm not sure about the motor though. The model number is C 239 NF UK

I'll have to check the warranty situation, but I'd think it's only 1 year.

I think I'll give this a try.

Thanks for your suggestions. Let me know if you think of anything else now I've given you the model number :-)

Thanks again.
