OT Why I like my area of Florida

I want one of the three wheel retard models with the Desert Rats flag. Excuse me, differently abled, learning challenged, or whatever the term is now.

Problem is they're very heavy and have one speed. I don't think I'd make it over Sunset Hill on my way to work. Sunset Memorial Gardens is at the top of the hill so they could shovel dirt over me and the bike and call it good.

Place is spookier than your average cemetery. They have an area by the bike path for kids, and by that I mean less than 1 year old, some less than 0. There's usually pinwheels, stuffed animals, and other stuff. I guess it's closure for the parents or something.

I've been people like me all my life. F*ck 'em if they can't take a joke.

You sure they don't ask for an insurance card?

Many years ago, I went to my HMO with what I considered a minor cardiac symptom. The doc, however, ordered me transported via ambulance to the local hospital.

I actually felt OK then- and the issue turned out to be minor. But the first thing the paramedic asked for while wheeling me on the gurney to the bus was ID and insurance card.

I gave him those and and since he seemed to have a pretty good sense of humor, asked if it cost extra to use the siren for the short ride over to the hospital. He said it usually does but in my case, they'd do it for free!

Parents of a stillborn or early death are really vulnerable. I don't like the word closure because IDK know if it exists. I had a friend that had a stillborn child that affected them deeply even though it was many years ago. Perhaps they thought 'they could have done something different'. They had two other kids and went on with life. Since I don't have kids I can only conjecture.

When I got hurt I would go into work because it would take my mind off the pain. What else you going to do, watch TV serials or Oprah?

Nope, if they're critical they go. If it's just a ride then we asked for name rank & horsepower. No insurance questions, we could always get the info from the hospital. Things were different then. Supplies were replenished by the hospital, no charge. Then the gov't made big changes and that stopped so we had to charge for everything. No more free O2, etc. The funniest incident involving money was when I responded to a crash and the women was complaining of leg & ankle pain. When I took her socks off she had change in one sox and bills in the other. Never seen that before.

You don't know what amps they draw! ;-) You would have been charged for mileage if it was out of their area.

I'm surprised they asked, they could have gotten it other ways. The sense of humor arrives from the fact they are not in the gurney...

I had a similar personal situation. I congratulated the driver for the smooth ride. The hospital sent a nurse along. The medic asked if she was bringing her kit. She ran back into the hospital and fetched it. She looked like I was gonna code out any minute with her ashen face. She wasn't very communicative either. That's when the severity of the situation sunk in.

I suppose it depends on your job. I don't think I would want to be horsing around an 80 pound developer with a fresh hernia operation. A 16 oz beer was no problem tho ;-)

Yeah, but they're carrying it. The only time I've been in an ambulance was after a car crash where I had a cut above my eye. I went a couple of hundred pounds in my prime and told them I was fine moving under my own power. No can do they said.

The worst part was laying around the ER and hearing a conversation about 'he may lose the eye' but they were talking about some other poor bastard. The doc who sewed me up said 'I'm not very good at this but a plastic surgeon will be able to fix it up.' Yeah, right, I thought. I once had a corpsman sewing on me. The first thing he did was through the novocaine that was in the suture kit away. 'If I use it, your facial muscles will sag and there might be a scar.'

I figure they just add character.

I didn't present myself very well-as usual-I was on light duty. The personal interaction was good for me. I have never been a drinker but carry no bias one way over the other. When I blasted my knee I was home.

IDK I hadn't thought of that. I think she was a local farmer. There was another call I had where I definitely think that person qualified. Unfortunately the condition I saw her in-covered in blood from head to toe from an MVA with a skin tight leotard-didn't lead to beauty pageant judging.
