OT Why I like my area of Florida

Florida is strange with that. You need a CCW to carry concealed but if you are hunting or fishing you can open carry with nothing but the appropriate game license. Just carry a Poleil pocket fisherman with you along with your desert eagle and you are good to go. Just be ready to cast into the first body of water you see if the cops are coming.

"Yes sir Officer. I heard the tilapia in this drainage ditch were huge". (and you might even catch one).

In NC you can open carry either a hand gun or long gun. Just need the CCW permit to carry concealed handguns. Can not conceal a long gun or large knive but you could have 20 handguns on you if you wanted to. Some very funny laws. Have a large knive and throw a coat over it in the backseat and get charged with concealed weapon even if you have a CCW permit. It is not unusual to go to Walmart and see someone with a handgun on his side. Just do not have on a coat over it unless a CCW.

Montana always had open carry statewide and you could carry a concealed weapon outside of incorporated area. I was never interested in a CCW except if I leave home with a gun under my jacket to go to the range on the other side of town, it's legal until I hit the city line. It's legal again when I cross the city line.

Whatever is in your vehicle is your business. Loaded, unloaded, in the glove box, whatever. Even the definition of a concealed weapon meant concealed on your person. You could have a backpack with enough firepower to start a war and it is not on your person per se.

There are a limited number of places where a CCW holder can carry that a normal citizen can't.

I've never felt a need to be armed to go to the library. A few weeks ago I was out in the woods and carried my .45, berry season and bears and so forth. I forgot about it when I stopped at the grocery store to pick some stuff up until I reached for my wallet. No big deal, particularly in that town.

I can't imagine any need to get on a commercial airliner, urgent or otherwise. I haven't been on a plane since 1997 and I don't see why that should change.

Under what circumstances might I need to prove who I actually am, that my vanilla driver's license wouldn't suffice?

Note that international flights appear to be exempt.

DE is similar but it has been years since I saw anyone open carrying other than hunting. CCW is a PITA to get and rules are a mish-mash, e.g. they allow CCW if you have a VA permit but will not allow it for a DE resident that has one from any other state, you have to live in VA or other allowed states.

But if there are other counntries that don't require a passport, I think it would be a mistake to go somewhere outside the US without a passport, in case you want to take a side trip to some country that does. Since you're so far from home anyhow.

Before the virus, I wouldn't even go to Florida or Texas anymore without a passport because they are so much closer to Carribean islands and Guatemala.

Canada would be an exception since it's no closer to 3rd countries than the US is. Except for Russia and I can't imagine taking a side trip to Russia when I'm in Montreal or the Yukon.

I got carded at Target when buying 'Gears of War'. Can't have those violent video games giving boomers bad ideas.

Back in the old days when Walmart had Winchester White Box ammo at a good price I picked up a couple of boxes of .45s. There must have been some question pop up on the screen when the clerk said under her breath, 'Like he's going to use them in a damn shotgun'. She clicked whatever needed clicking and took my money.

Cheap ammo was the only thing to lure me into Walmart. It's my store of last resort and I haven't been in it in two or three years although I pass it every day. I've got a nephew who will sit in the car rather than go in but I'm not quite that bad.

You need a passport BOOK (not the card) to get on an international flight.

I last renewed my DL in 2019, and they wouldn't let me renew online. I had to go to the office. I got real ID, and didn't have to provide any additional information.

Surprises me that we do not have to have an ID of sorts for buying fertilize as it can be used to make bombs.

That Allegra D law is just one of the feel good ones. Does not do anything.

Wife broke 3 ribs a few years ago. Had all kinds of problems getting any 'good' pain pills. For about 5 years about 15 years ago she complained of pain and the pain doctor loaded her up on pills she did not need. She got off those things and later the government did the crackdown.

Allegra D is restricted because it contains Pseudoephedrine which can be used to make Methamphetamine.

The Methamphetamine definitely does something.

I know the reason given about the Allegra and a few other similar drugs.

With tons of other illegal drugs in the country someone making a little meth is only a drop in the bucket.

There are many things sold that can harm people that does not require an ID. Like I mentioned. Propane, gasoline, bottles to put gas in, knives, chain saws.

I was probably 15 or so when, being a little wise-ass, I gave my mother a nip of Gilbey's gin for her birthday. Thereupon started the interrogation of where I got it. I'd bought it in a liquor store, no problem, no id.

I don't remember ever being carded back then. The legal age in NY was 18 and I could pass for that or more.

Just don't use your credit card when you buy a bag of fertilizer and 5 gallons of off road diesel down at the farm store...

The serious people buy the precursors in 55 gallon drums but the government likes symbolic gestures like my 40 cent made in China muzzle.

My dentist used to prescribe the good stuff after extractions and I think my doctor did the same for a broken collar bone. I filled the prescriptions but never took them. Saved them for a rainy day and it hasn't rained yet. I never did like downers.

I've done the broken ribs thing too. That's the gift that keeps on giving. Six months later I still didn't want to breathe too hard.

I have a passport card too. I show it in lieu of my driver's license when a government-issued photo ID is required. Less identity theft-bait info on it.

So take yours out of the drawer and stick it in your wallet ;-)
