Last time I went trough the AM dial, all I got was talk show, preachers, more talk shows. I listen to SiriusXM all the time. Music channels only.

Isn't Sirius carried by mobile data same as for cell phones? You can't get it everywhere. That was the point of the OP.

There was almost no FM until the FCC made rulings that promoted it.

You can get it from the phone and yes, there are dead spots. Most cars though, get it from satellites and rare to drop out. Some parking garages and tunnels have repeaters. I also like the fact that the station I choose here works any place in the US. Never have to hunt for a new station when traveling.

Sirius is a satellite service. It's not available in tunnels, otherwise it is pretty much universally available in the US.

It has a delay so if you pass under a bridge or tunnel you will not lose the signal but I do not know how long the delay is.

Many new cars have the ability to get SiriusXM and they give you a 90 day free trial to hook you. I signed up and enjoyed an additional year and at renewal time, I though, maybe not. I went to the store, put on an FM station I used to like. On the way to the store, no music, just commercials.

Did my shopping and going home, same station. Nothing but commercials. Later that day I renewed and have for at least 10 years now. I also listen at home.

My husband also listens to audiobooks. I don't care what my friends or the rest of the country listen to while they're driving. Although I'm pretty sure nobody I know listens to AM radio. NPR, perhaps, but not AM radio.

We have lots of AM and FM stations here, plus the new XM stations in my car. I listen to XM some and AM some. When I reviewed what I'd programmed in the new car there were no FM stations I ever wanted to turn to. Sadly there were a few good FM stations years ago but the content waned.

I know this is a controversial opinion, but in my opinion the least biased, most in-depth reporting seems to be on PBS stations. Programs on TV such as Independent Lens, the PBS News Hour and other programs, and Morning Edition and All Things Considered on radio certainly cover stories in greater depth than other outlets, routinely interview people on both sides of the political isle and avoid ad hominem attacks. I'm not saying that their coverage is perfect and I know some believe all news broadcasts on PBS are strongly biased. Many of those people also believe that Fox news is fair and balanced. You can't please all the people all the time.

I generally agree with you about PBS and those programs. The slant is obvious and usually you can figure out what is mostly true and where they deviate.

I monitor a lot of stations, left and right, looking for common threads to research for items that I'm interested in. Mostly I trust the people around me and what I personally observe. Sadly the best information on USA policies often comes from abroad. Internal politics really aren't agreed on until they become law.

I'm very worried about the disinformation and selective 'teaching' that has been going on for many years. College Teachers down to pre-school, no longer teach the basic information for society or the work force. So much real information has not been taught that the disinformation from all sides is very easy to seep into a persons mind. The students don't look for more information to confirm or deny what is being taught. Worse the ideas of mental discipline and the need to have a productive learning, working, and living environment has been lost.

I got the 3-month free trial when I bought a new car in 2015, then a few more free trials, then a gap followed by more free trials. By then they were calling on a regular basis, trying to get me to buy at the regular price. I resisted until they offered a 2-year deal at $4.99 a month, plus the SXM app, so now I have SXM in the car, and via the app on my cell phone, I have it in the second vehicle, in the house, the garage, and the back yard shed, all streamed via Bluetooth. I see on Reddit that anyone can get the $4.99 deal, so I guess I'm not special. You just have to ask for it, either via phone or chat.

We just got back from a 3000 mile road trip up to Michigan and SXM was on the entire time.

The last time I remember checking out the AM dial, I think the first 3 digits of the year were 197. (Sorry, micky, if AM were to disappear, I probably wouldn't even notice.)

In my car, the delay is less than a second. It's not really a problem.

SXM was originally just a satellite service, but a long while ago it also became available over the Internet, and now the Internet side of the business has a few hundred channels over and above what's available via satellite. As you know, you can get Internet on your cell phone, but you can also get it over your home Internet connection and anywhere you can find WiFi. That's far better than the AM situation, and that's before you even start to compare the content. AM has no redeeming qualities, IMHO.
