The article mentions the Chinchaga Firestorm in Canada that happened in the 1950s. The weather people here in Nebraska are talking about hazy skies today due to the current Canadian fires.

The "rarity" of this blue moon is that it is also a super moon. The next blue super moons are January 2037 and March 2037. The next monthly calendar blue moon is May 2026. The next seasonal blue moon is next August 2024.

Monthly blue moon is 2nd full moon in a calendar month - which is the more modern definition. Seasonal blue moon is the 4th full moon in a season - - which is the original olden definition.
