OT Bring back the wooly mammoth

There is is all this mostly empty land north of the Arctic Circle (and something to do with carbon!) wo what better way is there to use it than to encourage herds of wooly mammoths to live there.

What, there are no current wooly mammoths to send! Only a small problem. Yes, they've tried this in the past, rejuvenating cells they find, but the cells are always in bad shape. This time they will map the wooly genome and use Krispr to make brand-new DNA, fresh from the DNA factory, and I haven't read it but I suppose they'll put the DNA in the eggs of elephants how will, after 2 years, give birth to cuddly little mammoths.

Siberia has already shown interest and Canada may follow. He also mentioned the USA, Alaska I guess. They can be used to pull sleds of oil well hardware.

I think they will be able to make a big hairy elephant with huge tusks that looks like a mammoth. I am not sure it will really be a mammoth but who cares? Once you get past the scary thoughts it is an interesting project. OTOH We may very well be creating an invasive exotic creature that will decimate some native populations if it gets loose. It reminds me of a meme I saw. "If they didn't think the dinosaurs would get out, why were the gates at Jurassic Park so high"?

I think you should explore this area to determine the feasibility of the idea. Get back to us in 20 years or so because we aren't believe just anybody with the results.

My grandfather dug up a wooly mammoth that was at the NYS museum the last I knew. Paleontologist? Hell no, he was supposed to be building a dam for the paper mill and got sidetracked. Back then 15 different 3 letter agencies didn't swoop down so they dug up the bones and got on with the dam building.
