I'm looking for a vacuum for carpets.

They all suck.
The only thing built by Microsoft that would not suck.
I was looking at the Shark. Mean time I was able to fix the 15 year old Hoover so I never did buy one.
About 8 years ago I bought a Panasonic upright for work. The person using it thinks it is OK and the offices are clean.
I have a CanaVac central vac and it is VERY powerful. (it is their second top line Elite)
I've got a Dyson Absolute Animal vacuum that we bought maybe 6 years ago. It does a great job on carpet.
Shark is what She wants now. The Bissell upright She has now just broke, [the plastic canister] so I'll be getting a new one this week.

I've used a lot of vacuum cleaners and can only recommend NOT getting a dirt devil

And I wish I didn't have carpet. Especially around the cat box.
You have a choice.
First thing I did when I purchased my house was rip up all carpeting and had the hardwood floors refinished. I will never have carpeting.
Last time I picked one out of consumers test for best price performance, was a Hoover type. Been using it at least 10 years. I also have an old Kirby, and old Electroluxs. Shark some like.

We have a Shark Navigator NV42 vacuum and have been really happy with it.

It's kind of gross to see how much dirt it pulls out of our carpets. :)
I like that I can turn off the beater and use it on our hardwood floors too.

When I bought this house, it had blood red carpet in every room [including the bathrooms] except the kitchen. I removed that carpet and have a light brown carpet now.I'm shopping for ceramic tile to cover every room but the bathrooms and the bedrooms. The kitchen has wood slats over concrete, and they will be removed for the tile. Maybe then our dogs will think better of pissing on rock.
