Can I use a new LED 40w T12 bulb in an old (30 year old) fluorescent fixture?

Depends on the bulb . The ones I have wire directly to 110 volts , some retain the ballast .

I chose Type B bulbs so that I could remove the noisy ballasts.
When I replace the tubes in my house AI go with the B type also. mGets rid of the ballast and other wiring. The ficture will have to be rewired as per the drawing on the package of the LED tubes.
