I finally found a cast-iron surround to hide the ugly modern maroon tiles on my
1880 fireplace, a metalworker who did a good mend and a bricklayer who attached the thing. The fireplace looks great, even though the surround, I was told, was probably 1840s, with the ornamental work in copper.
