New management company only schedules fixed amounts.

Our property management company collects our HOA fees, paid via credit card or electronic "bank check" (or by mail by check, of course). Online it seems to handle only fixed amounts, but since it's set up to do that much, how hard could it be to bill whatever amount was actually owed?

Easy, right?

They may have to distinguish between bills that are owed, versus fines and penalties that we sometimes levy on bad boy neighbors. That would be 5 lines of code if they were writing the code themselves but since they are using a package or a service, either it has it or it doesn't. But surely it does and they just have to check a box and add one field to their billing line items that says if it's an automatically billable amount or something that is not automatic, like a fine or penalty.

Simple, right?

We had various problems with our n'hood management company and just changed to another one.

I'm trying to set up my quarterly HOA payments and it will only allow me to pay a fixed amount. When our water bill was the same year after year, that was fine, and I had the bank send identical payments, but for a reason I forget, our water bill now varies.

The electric company, the credit card companies bill and get paid a different amount every month, although it's been so long I forget how they do it.

Do any of you deal with a bill that repeats but varies in amount and the full amount gets paid each time, without your help???? Especially one with a property management company?

The previous company, as bad as it was, had an option they called ACH which charged whatever was owed. Well at least that's what they said, and that's the option I signed up for, but just as we were leaving them I got a delinquent notice for an amount which seemed to be about 4 quarters of water. I checked and my payments had been the same every quarter, just the HOA fee, no water. One more reason I'm glad we quit them, but this new company is a disappointment. I hope they will upgrade their system. Don't the other communities they manage also have bills that vary?

My utilities and communication bills do that. I pay them with BillPay. Your bank may or may not offer BillPay. I "do" have to actually enter the amount online and hit "Pay Bill". The bank sends a notification when a new bill comes in. This probably isn't what you wanted.
