what did you expect?

this always happens when a company buys out another company in the same line of business.

it's called "synergy"

I posted more in the way of a warning that it's probably best to avoid either brand for the next few years. Machines made by people waiting to be fired often aren't ones you want to buy. I bought a laptop from HP just after it swallowed Compaq. It has always been a dog. Unhappy workers is my guess.

Maytag has been an inferior brand for several years. I own a washer and a fridge. Both have required far more service calls than any appliance I've ever owned; and the Sear repair guy (where the fridge was purchased) confirmed that they have more service calls on maytag than any other brand.

It's a shame. They used to be a good brand.

Yep; my older Maytag washer and dryer have been running fine for 15 years with no problems and no signs of wearing out. What brand would I go to if they do fail?

Whirlpool is totally screwing over it's Maytag workers and it's disgusting. How the American government let this buy go through is beyond me. What's next? Is Ford going to purchase GM? The old Maytag company was concerned about customer service, Whirlpool cares only about it's bottom line. Maytag compromised their quality a long time ago maybe this is their comuppance I don't know. All I do know is that if I were a consumer I'd stay away from Maytag right now. I shudder to think what Whirlpool is going to do with the Maytag Customer Service people. Meaning this - warranty service may take a nosedive if they start to shit on their contracted repair men, Whirlpool WILL be told to hit the road. There won't be any warranty service.

I ought to know.
