Had issues connecting to blocknews on this computer so tried eternal=september. Worked on the other group that I could not get

Funny thing here , I can't get AHR to work on e-s , only on blocknews . Haven't tried lately , might be working now .

Seems all is working with blocknews on one computer, and with e-s on the other. I imagine blocknews stumbled after the Google groups shutdown but I'm thinking Thunderbird added to the mess.

With Thunderbird it seems I have to click on a group then another to connect with e-s.

Yes, I do that every time. You can even click on "sent" or any other folder.

I never have any such problems. Could relate to some "refresh" setting?

Just had it. Clicked on AHR and a message popped up the connection was reset but nothing loaded. Click off, click back on and they loaded.

I also don't like the way the later version handles threads. Normally, not a problem but if you leave unread messaged, go away, when you come back it loads the new with the old together and a PITA to read and reply.

hit "N" for the next unread message.

I never knew this feature. Learned something today. Thanks.

"F" does also. But thread are grouped with all messages if not all were read before.

I have just tried. "F" doesn't go to the next "unread" message like "N" does.

I gave up on other newsreaders adter I tried Forte Agent. Dead simple reliable interface - at leat on Eternal September

Interesting. I've used F forever and it does the same thing here. I don't recall where I found it, but I just looked and it does not show in the menu.

I found this under Help The F and B keys also move forward and back through the message list.

In my browser it is unto "Go".

My browser menu looks like this:

File  Edit  View  Go  Message  Tools  Window  Help

I meant "Mail & Newsgroups" menu, not "Browser" menu.

I used Agent a while back. I don't remember why I switched at the time.

All of the posters using Agent cannot display Unicode characters. My poster nym is "😎 Mighty Wannabe ✅". The first Unicode character is an emoji of a smiling face in black glasses. The last Unicode character is a square box with a tick mark inside. Agent will display my poster nym as "? Mighty Wannabe ?".

I think Agent is pathetic, in this day and age.

Well now that we know what they are meant to look like, we don't have to display them!

Pathos is an essential element of many plays.

Are we taling about thunderbird (which you are using in this post) or Agent?

Agent 1.93 has different drop downs with more one-letter commands listed than version 5 has. (But I think old commands still work even if not listed. I'll have to pay attention.)

I don't know if there are rules that span programs but under Navigate it has N Skip to next unread message B Skip to next unread body F Follow-up Usenet message.

**I stopped using 1.93 and moved to 5 when 1.93 stopped working in both computers within a few days of each other about 6 months ago. Tried to start it many times, after rebooting etc. Didn't work, but tonight it did. Oh, I updated the desktop Windows10 Pro for the first time in 2 years recently. That must be it. Though that doesn't explain why it stopped working.

Still doesn't work with win10-Home, which was always caught up with updates.
