Heard something on NPR tonight, about getting stains out of clothes.They thought it was appropriate for the day after Xmas, a popular day toget food on clothes!And in the intro the guest quoted" Furthermore, it is estimated that the average American throws awayabout 37kg/81 pounds of clothes every year-- that's the weight of an11-year-old child! "She said 80 pounds. How many of you throw 80 poundes of clothes away.I don't even own 80 pounds of clothes. Maybe if you counted everythingI've bought since college that I still have that I'm saving for when Ican into them again, maybe I'd have 80 pounds of clothes, but most oftha t stuff is pretty light weight. Shirts. She didn't, but the url above precedes what I quoted with "It might cometo a surprise to learn that around 85% of textiles thrown away in theU.S. are dumped into landfills or burned -- including unused textilesand unsold clothes" What percent are textile scraps, too small to ???,or unsold clothes that could go to a foreign clothing drive, it doesn'tsay, but she gave the impression she was claiming that none of it was. ----Before that there was a guy from the Elecrtric...Initiative, whose jobis to promote electric appliances in place of gas. He said that peopledon't care if their water heater is gas or electric, or what fuel theirfurnace uses, but "for some reaosn" they care about the stove. Why hesaid, because the gas seller have "spent 50 years marketing gas". That'snot it. My mother disliked electcric stoves long before 50 years ago,and so do I, even though she was stuck with them when she sold the houseand rented, and I'm stuck because there is no natural gas in my n'hood. When elecric stoves were first sold, there were about 5 buttons fordiffeent temperatures. No continuous control like with gas. But eventhought that is fixed, the big advantage of gas is you can see how hotit is by looking. It's not just Some reason. ----There might have been a third one, but it's gone into the either.

This is just rice. It is not that critical that the water start the simmering process at exactly 212 degrees or that it doesn't boil for a few extra seconds before you get it off the heat. If this is natural rice and not parboiled I doubt you would ever notice it going a few minutes.

My microwave has a system, you put in a code for the kind of food and something about how much the food weighs and it figures out how long to cook it. But I don't know how much things weigh and I have no idea what the codes are.
